Mr. Abdullah bin Suwaidan, DTCM Deputy Director Overseas Promotions, conducted the presentation held at The Atlantis Palm on the second day of ATM-2009, being held under the auspices of DTCM since the past 15 years. The event was attended by over 240 participants, including Hosted Buyers from more than 20 countries and media representatives.

He said:
"We have been bringing Hosted Buyers to Dubai to see the transformation of the emirate's tourism industry and facilitate networking with the local players. This year, we have brought a total of 172 Hosted Buyers from more than 20 countries, more than 28% increase than the previous edition."

He said their meetings with the local tourism industry players will be fruitful and help generate business during one of the most economically-challenging times that global tourism industry was facing.

Mr. bin Suwaidan said the department, in coordination with the hotels, tour operators and tourism companies, has been working towards boosting hotel occupancies and increasing the number of visitors to the emirate.

In his presentation, he outlined the growth and expansion of Dubai and its tourism industry, various tourism-related projects under different phases of development, DTCM initiatives to boost the local economy and tourism industry and participation in travel and tourism industry-related events and exhibitions.

With a stand measuring 1152 square metres, 74 booths and 132 co-participants from public and private sectors, DTCM has made a spectacular showing at the 16th edition of ATM at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC) from May 5 to 8.

He thanked the government and private sector organizations for their overwhelming support to the DTCM to create a strong presence for Dubai at the ATM-2009 being held against the backdrop of global economic slowdown and one of the most-challenging operating landscapes for the tourism industry.

Dubai Stand size has increased to 1152 square metres this year from last year's 1080, while there is a 28% increase in the number of Hosted Buyers that DTCM brought this year for the co-participants.
