Dubai Chamber receives Mexico business delegation

The delegation included HE Francisco Gonzales Diaz, regional director, Pro Mexico, Europe, Middle East and Africa, Jimena Pacheco Munoz, Attache, Middle East and Economic Affairs, and HE Francisco Escobar, Mexico Consul General in Dubai.

HE Eng Hamad Buamim, Director General, Dubai Chamber, welcomed the Mexican delegation and reiterated the need for increased cooperation between the two sides to promote trade, investment and tourism. He also stated that there was a core need to support the growth of the two cities and explore untapped avenues of cooperation by opening direct flights between Dubai and Mexico and to work towards promoting and strengthening trade ties between the strategic trading partners.

The Director General of Dubai Chamber commended the efforts of both sides in taking their cooperation ties to a higher level as he said the visit came as a follow-up to their joint efforts in setting up the Mexican Consulate in Dubai last year.

The delegation also discussed the means of establishing and promoting a student exchange programme between the University of Mexico and the University of Dubai, an initiative of the Dubai Chamber, which would help bridge the educational and cultural gap between students from both sides and expose them to different learning experiences and curriculums.

The Pro Mexico delegation extended an invitation to the members of the Dubai Businesswomen Council, which operates under the umbrella of the Chamber, to visit Mexico and explore the opportunities of joint business ventures between business women from both sides. The delegation also briefed Dubai Chamber officials about Mexico's plans to host the 2010 Latin American Conference on Culture, Food and Information.

Mexico ranked 64th in the list of Dubai's trading partners as the volume of trade between Dubai Chamber members and Mexico stood at Dhs23m at the end of 2008. Presently, there are 22 Mexican companies operating in Dubai.
