Aimed at enhancing awareness on conserving power and water, the campaign helped achieve a significant drop in electricity and water consuption in Dubai, with the schools saving 22% power and 42% water.
Lawrence Hartnett, KGS, Principal, said:
"We are proud of the efforts of the students, teachers and staff in this competition; KGS was the only Indian school to receive an award. We thank DEWA for organizing this campaign which teaches students the importance of conserving water and energy. It encourages a culture of saving natural resources and preserving the environment."
KGS reduced their electricity and water consumption by 15% over the campaign period. The students were involved in several activities that helped reduce electricity and water use including: stopping the use of Fire-Hose for washing corridors and buses, Inserting shower-heads into some taps, ensuring that lights are switched off during breaks and regulating air-conditioners at a temperature of 24 degree Celsius.
"Our students reduced their usage of electricity and water to the bare minimum. At KGS, we are committed to raising awareness about the environment and go by the GEMS ethos of encouraging students to make positive contributions towards the community," the principal added.
