African consortium eyes EPL TV rights

A consortium of 12 African pay TV operators led by Nigerian satellite service provider HiTV, has revealed a bid to secure North African coverage of English Premier League TV broadcast rights, currently held by Dubai-based pay TV operator Showtime. Showtime's current $120m-plus deal with the English FA, which expires at the end of the 2009/2010 EPL season, includes rights to broadcast matches in the Mena region.
