Held at the Monarch Dubai, Costa Cruises stood out from five international cruise operators to win the prestigious "Middle East's Leading Cruise Company" award.

The award recognizes the long term commitment that Costa Cruises has shown to the Middle East region since 2006. The company was the first to market regular cruises in the Arabian Gulf, turning Dubai into a major cruise hub and contributing to the city's growth as a tourist resort destination.

The World Travel Awards was hailed as the 'Oscars of the Travel Industry' by the Wall Street Journal and celebrates the travel and tourism industry's best practices by recognizing the achievements of over 100 travel and tourism companies from across the Middle East.

Award winners were selected by a database of 167,000 travel, tourism and hospitality professionals who vote online each year on the various categories.

Mr Dario Rustico, Sales and Marketing Director, Pacific Asia Operations of Costa Cruises said,

"We are delighted to receive this award as it reflects our ongoing commitment to developing the cruise market in the Middle East region. This recognition gives us further motivation to continue our activities and multiply our efforts in order to grow this market. We have decided to deploy the two new jewels of the Costa fleet, the Costa Luminosa and the Costa Deliziosa in Dubai in winter 2009/2010, together with the Costa Europa which will set sail on a unique itinerary crossing the Mediterranean, the Suez Canal and the Red Sea."

Costa Cruises recorded an outstanding performance in the region during 2008, and January 2009 marked the third consecutive year that Costa Cruises has operated Dubai itineraries in the Middle East. The company increased its regional capacity by 50% year on year at the end of 2008 with the deployment of the 53,000-ton Costa Classica and the 75,200-ton Costa Victoria.

From December 13, 2008 to April 18, 2009, the Costa Classica and the Costa Victoria have made 11 and 18 weekly calls respectively, carrying passengers from all over the world departing from Dubai to Abu Dhabi, Fujayrah, UAE, Muscat, Oman and Bahrain. Costa Cruises' guests have experienced some of the most popular local tourist attractions, in addition to being immersed in the natural beauty, history and culture that the Middle East has to offer.

Costa Cruises will soon deploy the most exclusive and elegant vessels in its fleet, the Costa Luminosa and Costa Deliziosa, to Dubai, upon their completion. The 92,600-ton Costa Luminosa with a total capacity of 2,826 guests will be christened in Genoa on June 5, 2009 together with the Costa Pacifica.

Her sister ship, the Costa Deliziosa will enter into service in February 2010, and will sail the seven-night Dubai itineraries with Costa Luminosa. The 54,800-ton Costa Europa with a capacity of 1,830 total guests will also offer a series of eight Dubai itineraries travelling between Savona and Dubai, in winter 2009/2010.
