The resort's world-class dining outlets provided refreshments to the 100-plus participants, as well as a barbecue lunch after the event on the beach-side lawn.
"We welcomed the initiative by His Highness Sheikh Hamad as it is crucial to protect the marine environment in Fujairah. As an award-winning resort in the East Coast, our responsibility is equally divided between taking care of our guests and preserving the natural beauty of Fujairah, which has made it such a key destination on the world map,"
said Patrick Antaki, General Manager, Le Méridien Al Aqah.
Emirates Diving Association organized the underwater dives, with the backing of the UAE Ministry of Environment and Water. Several dive centers provided divers and boats, including Al Boom Diving, which has a dive centre located at Le Méridien Al Aqah. The dedicated and experienced divers removed several garbage bags of rubbish, continuing the association's work in the East Coast.
"The team achieved excellent results; however we would like to see these resources dedicated to beautifying the environment, rather than clearing away rubbish. We want to spread the message the community and tourists alike that littering destroys the environment and has a toxic effect on marine life," said Antaki.
