The survey is part of an international study that aims to understand smokers' attitudes and behaviors towards smoking and smoking cessation.

This research is one of the largest international surveys about smoking conducted with smokers and for Africa and the Middle East region; it was run across 7 countries covering a total of 1,422 smokers in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, Tunisia and the UAE.

Commenting on this survey, Mr. Zaki Kasmo, Market Manager, Pfizer Jordan, said:
"This survey is a significant step in understanding smokers' perceptions regarding their smoking addiction."

"This region has unique cultures and traits, and by understanding how they compare to the rest of the world, we can successfully start tackling the tobacco epidemic that is harming our health, the health of our families and communities," he added.

The Africa/Middle East SUPPORT Survey is part of a larger global survey conducted by Harris Interactive in 2006 of smokers from 10 countries including Canada, France, Germany, Japan, Mexico, Spain, South Korea, Sweden, UK and the US.
