Taking place 19-21 October 2009 at the Beach Rotana, Abu Dhabi, UAE, the event is set to become a fulcrum of Reservoir Characterization and Simulation technologies.

With its theme "Overcoming Modelling Challenges to Optimise Recovery", the second edition of RCSC, which is co-organised by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE) has received over 286 technical paper proposal from 100 companies representing 34 countries; a record figure that signifies the continued expansion of the topic and the conference.

In what will be a comprehensive multi-session programme, over 60 interactive presentations and discussions will focus on reservoir applications and different technologies of characterisation, modelling and simulation. During three days of concurrent sessions, leading minds in the field will meet to share their experiences on over 17 specific reservoir characterisation topics including static modelling, upscaling technologies, EOR, field development optimisation and complex well modelling, reservoir characterization, dynamic modelling advances, integrated asset modelling, uncertainty analysis and multiple realizations, fluid characterization and compositional modelling, work flow process, geomechanics, development of transition zones, tar mats, unconventional reservoirs, heavy oil reservoirs, reservoir monitoring/management, modelling of naturally fractured reservoirs tight oil/gas reservoirs. The event will also include a plenary and panel session.

Abdulla Al Ajimi, Programme Committee Co-Chairman, said:
"The increased importance of the capacity to maximise hydrocarbon recovery requires more accurate and improved reservoir characterisation and modelling workflows. RCSC is a pivotal event in highlighting better and reliable reservoir modelling techniques and best practices. It is a collaborative effort between two leading oil and gas societies, which results in an exceptionally high quality technical event."

RCSC will include features such as networking sessions, short courses and workshops, which will maximise the value of attending this event. A small exhibition will be held in conjunction with the conference where organisations will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services to conference delegates and key industry professionals in the field. The event is sponsored and supported by ADNOC and Saudi Aramco.

Waleed Refaay, Managing Director of SPE Middle East, North Africa and India, said:
"RCSC is aimed at a niche segment in the oil and gas industry, it is one of the world's most focused conferences on Reservoir Characterization and Modelling. It will also house a small exhibition which allows major organisations to present and showcase their latest technologies and products in this area. Such events are integral to helping move the industry forward especially when they are co-organised by two of the leading professional societies such as SPE and EAGE."

It is expected that delegate numbers will include a significant percentage of the organising societies in addition to influential industry leaders, professionals, and decision makers from around the world. Technical professionals involved in reservoir characterization, simulation and modelling including petroleum engineers, geologists, geophysicists, and other technologists; in addition to local industry key figures are expected to attend as well.
