Sheraton Miramar Resort hosts 'Egypt on Way to Sustainable Destination' conference

Under the banner of "Egypt on the Way to a Sustainable Destination", the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and the Green Star Hotel Initiative had invited key players in the regional and worldwide tourism industry to an international conference on December 17th - December 19th.

That cutting edge initiative, designed to reduce the impact of the tourism industry on Egypt's environment took place at Sheraton Miramar Resort as one of the Green Star Hotels.

Over the course of the previous year, the Green Star Hotel program has been implemented in ten of hotels within El Gouna, contributing to the resort's goal of being recognized as Egypt's most environmentally friendly destination.

Sheraton Miramar Resort had the pleasure of hosting representatives from Tourism Ministries in Jordan, Oman, and Tunisia as well as the UNEP, UNWTO, and the International Federation of Tour Operators. At the conference, the Green Star Hotel Initiative was focusing on how to reduce the adverse impact of tourism on the environment.

As a result, a common declaration signed by the Egyptian Minister of Tourism, the CEO of Orascom Hotels & Development and the official representatives of the UNWTO, UNEP and the IH&RA has been passed outlining that Egypt as the first tourism destination will use and implement the Global Sustainable Tourism Criteria towards the goal of making the tourist industry more sustainable.
