Oman Air cadets earn their wings

Many high-ranking officials and dignitaries from Oman, Oman Air, also from the Consulate of Oman in Australia were present at the event.

RMIT Vice-Chancellor and President, Professor Margaret Gardner AO, said this was the first cohort of Omani cadets to undertake their commercial pilot training with RMIT.

"I congratulate the cadets and thank Oman Air. We are delighted to deliver practical training engaging directly with a strong and growing airline and national carrier," the Vice-Chancellor said.

Speaking on the occasion Captain Mohammed Al-Ajmi - Fleet Captain Boeing 737, Oman Air Flight Operations who represented Oman Air in the occasion said that the Company was indeed happy and proud to welcome the Pilot Cadets after their successful training in RMIT.

"We are sure that these cadets will contribute to the growth of the Airline which is on an expansion track. Oman Air has always placed a firm and committed stand on training, seeking tie-up with the best institutes around the world to instruct its technicians. I am impressed by the quality of the training delivered by RMIT University and the standards achieved by the students." Captain Al Ajmi said.

Corporate Communications and Media of Oman Air notified that the Company remains committed to the development and recruitment of Omani nationals. The cadet pilot programme they said requires dedication and hard work, and the national carrier of Oman is proud to see its cadets successfully complete the rigorous training courses. "We will continue to open our doors to young and hard-working Omanis who are keen on joining the cadet pilot training programme,' they said.

"In line with the airline's fleet and route expansion plans, we expect a significant growth rate for the cadet pilot programme over the coming years. Last year they mentioned, saw two batches of young bright Omani cadets being sent to Ayla Academy in Jordan where they underwent intensive commercial pilots training. At present, Oman Air's' flight deck crew includes 43 Omani Captains and 66 Co-pilots. In the new millennium, Oman Air's mission is to seek out new ways to develop and improve its position as a leader in aviation excellence,"

It is worth to mention that The Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT) was named at the 2009 Australian International Airshow, as a Focal University for Boeing in Australia.
