  • PRESS RELEASE

Morelli's, the legendary Italian Gelato maker famous for its fresh Gelato made the traditional way, is offering fun activities for the entire family, to complement its range of trade-mark products at its outlet at the Star Atrium of The Dubai Mall, during May and June.

Morelli's Gelato (Italian word for ice cream), owned by the Morelli family that has been making Gelato the traditional Italian way for five generations, has launched Friday Family Fun, which offers children's activities like face painting, branded balloons, coloring books and live Italian music by a talented Italian guitarist. In addition, children get a free gelato scoop when their parents eat from 8am to 2:00 pm.

The fun activities are part of "Festival at The Dubai Mall" campaign launched by the Emaar, promoters of the world's largest mall.

Antonio Bautista, President & Chief Operating Officer, Morelli's, said:
"We want more people to experience Morelli's Gelato which is made from a trademark recipe perfected by a family that has been making Gelato for almost 100 years. Morelli's Gelato is very different from the American-style ice-creams, because it is not cream-based but milk-based, and, more importantly, it is made fresh every day on premise the traditional Italian way."

Morelli's fresh Gelato has a very different consistency to industrial ice cream which is deep frozen and generally has a one-year shelf life. Milk-based gelato is also a healthier product as it is less heavy and contains much less fat than American-style ice cream, making it easier to digest and not so filling.

Morelli's history goes back to 1907 when Giuseppe Morelli emigrated from Italy to the UK and began his venture by in a modest way by selling the traditional Gelato from the back of his bicycle. In 1932, the original Morelli's Gelato parlor was opened by his son on the seafront in Broadstairs, Kent. It was the first Gelato parlor to serve 20 flavors of ice cream.

After generations of family involvement in not only the Gelato but also the coffee business, Marino Morelli, great grandson of the founder, prior to his retirement, opened a Morelli's Gelato in the famous food halls in Harrods, London in November 2003.

In December 2008, as part of expansion by way of selected 'home-owned' flagships and franchises with strategic regional partners, Morelli's opened in Dubai at Dubai Mall, bringing the concept established to new customers in the world's largest shopping mall in addition to two new outlets in Khalidya and Al Wahda in Abu Dhabi and in Avenues Mall Kuwait where 20 out of 50 flavors of Gelato made fresh on premise daily .

Besides uncompromising quality and top-class customer service, Morelli's pays extra attention to the presentation of its product. Rather than limiting its offer to a scoop on a cone, where possible Morelli's likes to present its product as a sundae dish; served in beautiful Italian glassware, topped with fresh fruit, nuts, sauces, fresh whipped cream, wafers, chocolate and other such toppings all in an unique Italian spirit and excellence. This makes the enjoyment of the Gelato a special treat for customers.
