The three-day event that opened today (25 May) at the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre (ADNEC) has drawn DIC's sponsorship for the third consecutive year. The conference has gathered over 200 leading suppliers and features 30 presentations and seven industry specific forums.

Malek Sultan Al Malek, Executive Director of Dubai Internet City, said: "The current economic climate has required many companies to modify their business strategies. Yet, we strongly believe the telecommunications industry, especially in the region, will continue to weather the storm and register better performance.

"MECOM is widely considered to be one of the region's leading industry events, offering vital networking opportunities with potential business partners. DIC is proud to be associated with such an event and we are confident major global telecom operators will identify fresh potential in the region and be encouraged to establish operations especially at the DIC."

MECOM 2009 focuses on sourcing next generation communications technology and solutions for the government, healthcare, hospitality, banking and finance, public sector, oil and gas, real estate, retail, manufacturing, logistics, and media sectors.

As a pioneering destination that continues to propel the region's sustained growth drive for the ICT sector, Dubai Internet City is closely involved with major industry events in the Middle East. The cluster has also developed several programmes that can be leveraged by the community to explore and expand channel development opportunities.

Hosting many Fortune 500 companies, Dubai Internet City has emerged as a global ICT hub, while catering to the region's increasing focus on the knowledge-economy.
