City Waste 2009 inaugurated by the UAE Minister for Environment and Water

City Waste 2009 announces official inauguration from the UAE Minister for Environment and Water, H.E. Dr. Rashid Ahmad Bin Fahad.

He will open the first day of the conference on Monday 12 October 2009. This important four-day event will focus on the development of effective waste management strategies, as well as covering practical and policy issues in safe treatment and storage of different wastes.

Fiona Barron, Conference Director for City Waste 2009 says, "We are delighted to have His Excellency the Minister coming to inaugurate this important event. The need for a sustainable waste management infrastructure is imperative to the region; it is commendable that the ministries are responding to their responsibilities in such a beneficial way."

City Waste 2009 will feature speakers from Dubai Municipality, Abu Dhabi Municipality, The Government of Ajman, the Arab Urban Development Institute and Institution of Civil Engineers UK. They will be joined on the agenda by a host of international experts in waste from the private sector.

Key topics to be discussed include; Understanding and reforming regulations to drive the reduction of waste, strategic masterplanning to prevent and reduce waste, raising societies awareness of the value of effective waste management and exploring existing and alternative disposal strategies for the region.

Commenting on the summit Kelwyn Davies, Waste Reduction Manager, Aldar Properties PJSC, said, "This is a unique event that effectively addresses the key challenges facing the waste industry in the Middle East region. The impressive speaker faculty will guarantee City Waste 2009 will be the ultimate meeting place for waste experts and resource management professionals."

Accompanying the conference on 11and 14 October are four half-day workshops taking an in-depth look at the critical issues of sustainable integrated strategies and funding mechanisms, a strategic exploration of waste to energy best practice, municipal solid waste management strategies and options for alternative methods of managing waste.
