Muscat Municipality launches new website at the 2nd Government eServices Exhibition of Comex 2009

The 2nd Govt eServices Exhibition was launched on the 25th May 2009 and 18 government organizations including the Muscat Municipality are exhibiting their eServices during the Comex 2009.
The website at www.mm.gov.om has a new look and interactivity and is based on a dynamic new design with a set of comprehensive information about the municipality, its projects and eServices.
This new website of the Muscat Municipality has an online directory with over 80 municipal services accessible to anyone through Internet access. Electronic maps of the five main directorates under the municipality are available online along with electronic copies of their publications.
In future this website will be linked to the municipality's Geographic Information System (GIS) to offer interactive queries based on spatial data.
According to Salim Al Kalbani, Projects Section Head, IS Directorate of the Muscat Municipality, "We have several eServices accessible through our website: visitors can query the status of their applications for various municipality services such as building permits, constructions permits, municipal licenses, health and technical inspections and contracts. In future it will also be possible to apply for these services online."
Muscat municipality is a pioneering government organization offering three main categories of eServices such as Online services, SMS-based services and Interactive Voice Response services. Documentary requirements for applying for municipality services, enquiry of application status, complaints and suggestions are offered through IVR systems.
The public can access SMS services by sending SMS to enquire about the status of applications made to the municipality and also to query about vehicle parking violations. In addition their widely used service enables payment of parking fees by sending an SMS with vehicle and time details.
