During the visit the students toured the development with BWTC's architects and engineers from ATKINS to explore its wind energy technology system.

The visit was initiated to add a practical element to their education, complementing the theoretical lectures on Energy Conservation in Buildings.

The students were provided with an overview of how sustainability has been successfully incorporated into the twin tower design, utilizing the three 29-meter diameter wind turbines mounted on horizontal-axes.

BWTC's elliptical shaped towers act as aerofoils, funneling and accelerating the wind velocity between them, and exploiting the unobstructed prevailing onshore breeze from the adjacent Gulf coast to provide a renewable source of energy for the building and 11-15% of the towers' energy requirements.

BWTC is a unique development in terms of sustainable architecture and is the first commercial building in the world to utilize wind energy harnessed by three large-scale turbines suspended between its twin towers.
