Qatargas sponsors students to attend Gastech 2009

Qatargas has sponsored two students from Qatar to attend the Gastech 2009 conference being held from 25 - 28 May in Abu Dhabi.

The sponsorship comes as part of Gastech's 'Fuelling the Future' Student Programme, an initiative that helps to publicize the industry as a worthwhile and beneficial career path for new graduates.

The students who have benefitted from the sponsorship this year are from Qatar University and Texas A&M University - Qatar. The programme for the students offers a wide range of activities and presentations from leading industry figures.

In addition, the students will have the opportunity to network with industry professionals and gain a broader perspective of the gas industry in general.

Mr. Ghanim Al-Kuwari, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer - Administration says,

"This sponsorship comes as part of our ongoing efforts in supporting education and funding initiatives that benefit the student community in the State of Qatar. Attending events like the Gastech conference gives these young graduates a unique opportunity to meet and interact with industry experts from around the world and learn from the various presentations and tours. The LNG industry offers excellent career opportunities for graduates and Qatargas is keen on tapping in on the rich pool of talent available in Qatar."


More than 300 students representing 105 worldwide universities from 33 countries have registered for the program at Gastech. Mr. Ahmed Al-Khulaifi, Qatargas Chief Operating Officer - Commercial & Shipping represented Qatargas on the panel at an 'Open Forum' for the students and answered questions related to the LNG industry in general and Qatargas' current operations and expansion projects in particular.

For the second consecutive year, Qatargas sponsored the Gastech cyber corner which is a communication zone for the conference delegates. The cyber corner attracted a lot of visitors who made use of the amenities provided.
