The architectural design and expected benefits to the local community were amongst the criteria upon which the judging panel based their decision. The winner will be announced prior to the awards ceremony which will take place on June 18th, 2009 in London, England.
Commenting on the news, Cairo Festival City's Senior General Manager, Dr. Mohamed El Mikawi said
"We're delighted to have been shortlisted for the RLI Award from amongst some of the world's most prestigious retail projects. Our designs are guided first and foremost by the community's needs. They are intended to provide a lifestyle that stretches beyond the confines of retail space offering a unique experience."
Al Futtaim Group Real Estate's first flagship in the region, Dubai Festival City received an RLI award in 2008, the international shopping centre of the year for their shopping mall.
Located at the heart of Cairo Festival City, Festival Centre Located at the heart of Cairo Festival City, Festival Centre is expected to open in 2011. Upon completion, Festival Centre will offer more than 300 stores, 100 restaurants and cafes, a 17 screen cinema complex, a hypermarket and a food court.
Whilst the outdoor Festival Village will boast a range of boutiques, restaurants and cafes set alongside a landscaped park.
Considered amongst the most prestigious of international awards in the retail and leisure industries, the RLI awards are organized by the RLI magazine, a global publication dedicated to those markets.
The magazine chose to start this award several years ago, as a way to recognize the outstanding creativity and success of companies in these industries, acknowledging them based on their concepts, initiatives and design excellence.
