"Once again, our maintenance employees, and Alba as a whole, have proven that they possess the required skills and advanced technology to do the job without external assistance. If we had taken that route, it would have been a very costly process and would seem hard to justify since the company, like other smelters around the world, has adopted a cost-cutting policy during the present financial crisis," said the Reduction Maintenance Manager, Abdul Jabbar Aqeel Al Awadhi.

"The Bahraini maintenance technicians and engineers at the reduction lines were able to get the job done with the highest efficiency and the lowest cost, thanks to their outstanding expertise that suits Alba's position as one of the pioneering aluminium companies in the world," he said.

"This is added to Alba's achievements in terms of environment, safety, training, and nationalisation efforts, as well as record production and high quality achievement with the lowest cost, depending on the skilled experienced Bahrainis, who managed to complete the maintenance of the reduction cranes in a record time of not more than two months, while it usually takes five months to complete with the assistance of the manufacturing company," he added.

This achievement was made by the cooperation of Metal Production Group led by the reduction line 4&5 manager, Mohsin Shukrallah, and the support of the group general manager, Mohammed Mahmood, who personally follows up the progress.

Alba has been consistently ranked as one of the largest aluminium smelters in the world and is known for its technological strength and innovative policies. It has five reduction lines, including the world's longest reduction line, Line 5, which was opened in 2005 incorporating some of the latest environmentally friendly technologies.

The company has consistently maintained a high track record for safety and continues to enforce strict environmental guidelines and has surpassed production targets set for the year. It supports numerous community oriented programmes and social activities that have underlined its status as one of Bahrain's leading industrial organisations that remains fully committed to its corporate social responsibility.
