Government Departments launch daily live auctions on Tejari.com at GITEX 2001

Several Dubai government departments will launch daily auctions on Tejari.com, the Middle East's premier business-to-business marketplace, live from GITEX 2001.

Dubai, UAE
Up to 20 auctions are expected to take place from the Tejari stand at the exhibition, giving GITEX visitors a first-hand look at the functionality of the marketplace, while demonstrating the current level of trading activity on Tejari.

New auctions are expected during GITEX from the Dubai Department of Health and Medical Services (DOHMS), the Department of Economic Development, the Al-Awqaf & Islamic Affairs Department, Dubai Courts, Dubai Municipality, Dubai Government Workshop, Dubai Ports Authority, and Dubai Airport Free Zone.

Each auction taking place live at GITEX will show how a Tejari buyer requests specific products or services, which is followed by a bidding process from participating suppliers. The government auctions are slated to cover a diversity of goods, including automobiles and spare parts, pharmaceuticals, office furniture, construction equipment, painting supplies, and paper products. GITEX attendees can visit the Tejari stand to watch the auctions progress, or log on to www.tejari.com under "current auctions" to check the status of a specific auction.

"One of the objectives of having Tejari members launch auctions live at GITEX is to demonstrate just how easy it is to trade on the marketplace. By giving hands-on auction demonstrations during the exhibition, Tejari is also showing the transparency of the online trading process, which gives both buyers and suppliers greater peace-of-mind," noted Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi, Managing Director of Tejari.com.

A frenzy of auction activity on Tejari in recent months culminated in more than 100 auctions taking place on the marketplace during the month of September, which is a new record for Tejari. Tejari will also be recognizing a number of government departments during GITEX with awards that reflect their level of trading or specific commitment to the marketplace.

"For many businesses in the region, 'seeing is believing,' and having government departments, which in some countries around the world may be symbols of bureaucracy, actually showing how to benefit from e-commerce, is a tremendous testament to the power of online trading," added Al Qasimi.

The government auctions taking place during GITEX will be launched intermittently from the Tejari stand in Hall 6, stand # C6-1.
