Dolphin Energy picked up two awards at the 8th Annual Middle East Excellence in Energy Awards that was held on Thursday.

Dolphin Energy's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh was awarded the prestigious 'Innovator in Energy' award while the company also picked up the 'Best Project of the Year' award.

Dubbed the 'Oil Oscars', the awards were organized by the region's leading energy publication, Pipeline Magazine, in partnership with Gastech. For the occasion a panel of independent judges was convened to assess submissions and make the final winning selections.

More than 300 companies entered the awards and the panel recognized the unstinting contribution Mr Al Sayegh has made to the energy sector. Specifically the panel highlighted how under Mr. Al Sayegh's stewardship, Dolphin Energy has made a significant impact on the region. According to the panel, this has brought a better quality of life to customers and clients in the GCC and will help to enhance business across the region in the coming years.

Commenting on his 'Innovator in Energy' award, Mr. Ahmed Ali Al Sayegh said: "This is a great honor. This award is testament to the vision of the UAE President, His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahayan and the Qatar Emir, His Highness Hamad Bin Khalifa Al Thani whose commitment has helped to create wealth, growth and employment opportunities for the region. This achievement would not have been possible without the support and guidance of General His Highness Sheikh Mohamed Bin Zayed Al Nahayan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, who has been instrumental in the development of the project since its inception."

Dolphin also picked up a second award, Project of the Year. The company was chosen because of the many milestones reached in 2008. This included the achievement of full production and supply rate of two billion standard cubic feet of natural gas a day; the start of interruptible supplies to Sharjah in April 2008 and the supply of natural gas to Oman in October 2008. This last accolade completed the strategic Qatar-UAE-Oman natural gas grid that was first proposed in 1999.

In receiving the second award, Mr. Adel Ahmed Albuainain, Dolphin Energy's General Manager, Qatar said:
"Last year was a phenomenal year for Dolphin Energy. Nine years of visionary planning came to fruition and 2008 represents the culmination of hard work and dedication. Perhaps it is fitting to add that the milestones achieved were done by utilizing more than 122 million man hours without reporting a single incident. We are delighted to win this, especially when you consider the quality of those who entered the awards. To stand out among strong competition makes us all extremely proud."
