2nd Government eServices Exhibition ended successfully

The 2nd Government e-Services exhibition organized by the Information Technology Authority (ITA) along the sidelines of COMEX 2009 ended successfully recording a huge response by the visitors.

This exhibition launched last year is a repeated success even this year with the eOman pavilion hosting about 18 government organisations under the theme 'Interactivity'.

ITA received the coveted 'Best Exhibitor' of the year at Comex 2009 for having uniquely championed the participation of the government sector and lead its execution to a grand success. The government exhibitors were available to engage with the visitors personally all days of Comex from the 26th until the 29th of May 2009.

ITA expresses it's sincere thanks every one of these organizations for their participation under eOman umbrella and their steadfast cooperation in the delivery of eServices to the community of Oman. The visitors enlightened themselves about the various online services from the government sector and enjoyed listening to briefings about the how the public sector is transforming internally using technology to improve their efficiencies and serve the residents of the Sultanate at their comfort.

Based on ITA's invitation the following government entities took part in this exhibition and reached our to a large number of public in a very short duration during the Comex 2009: State Council, Majlis A'Shura, Royal Oman Police, Public Authority for Social Insurance, Ministry of Agriculture, Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Ministry of Civil Services, Ministry of Tourism, Ministry of Higher Education, Ministry of Sports Affairs, Ministry of Information, Ministry of Education, Ministry Justice, Ministry of National Economy, Ministry of Regional Municipalities & Water Resources, Muscat Municipality, Ministry of Housing and the Ministry of Interior.

Team ITA found the responses from the VIPs visiting the eOman pavilion very encouraging and they thoroughly enjoyed the interactive sessions with the public. Useful feedback given by the visitors was very constructive in improving the eServices as well as guidance in the launch of new programs to benefit the user community.

Months of preparation for the exhibition culminated in an extremely successful turnout of the people who waited patiently at every stand to be explained about the services personally. They also indulged in seeking clarification of eligibility, access and further contact information displaying their readiness and willingness to adopt the new technologies.

The eOman projects such as the Government eServices Portal, Government Network, e-Payment Gateway, National Data Centre, Innovation and Support Center, E-transactions Law, Government IT Training, Oman National CERT and eOman Awareness presented in this exhibition were also well received by the visitors.

Arif the news mascot unveiled during Comex 2009, as the brand ambassador of ITA mad a huge impact among the young generation. He will continue to engage with the community in a friendly and helpful manner bringing complex technology to the people in simpler terms. He will appear in a range of media encouraging the people to adopt modern ways of doing their daily activities and enjoy the difference in their new e-lifestyle.

The daily survey on personal and professional use of technology received an overwhelming response and two winners walked out with laptops every day of Comex 2009. The listeners also thronged to witness the demonstration of technology solutions that were displayed and took part enthusiastically in the Oman TV and Oman FM programs that were telecast regularly.

All children visiting the 2nd Government e-Services exhibition at Comex 2009 had something excusive on showcase. The interactive software solutions, smart classroom, the Oman CERT Cybersafety presentations, Online quizzes, radio quiz shows and the demonstration of automated and programmable Lego models and remote controlled vehicles enthralled them and motivated to consider science and technology more seriously in their academic world. These are the true champions of eOman leading their parents in to the digital culture effortlessly.

ITA also thanks the role played by the print media, Oman News Agency, Oman TV and Oman FM in spreading Comex news wider through a range of media and encouraging the people to visit the stands. Without their support it would not have been possible to reach the length and breadth of Sultanate with our key messages.

Comex 2009 has proved to be a huge crowd-pulling event providing an effective touch point for the government, service providers, vendors, resellers and the consumers. The ambience nourished the visitors with knowledge of modern technologies and products and creates a wider awareness among the public about the progress of the ICT industry of Oman.

The guests expressed astonishment about he range of services that were already available through the Internet and the fact that some of these could also be completed entirely electronically including online payments.

ITAs belief to involve every resident of Oman in the creation of a knowledge-based based society had been reaffirmed by the huge turn out the participants as well visitors during the recently concluded 2nd Government e-Services exhibition at Comex 2009.
