The Higher Colleges of Technology's Abu Dhabi Women's College held its annual Student Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, 28 May, honoring students' extracurricular engagement throughout the academic year.

The event is designed to encourage students to enrich their experience at the College by joining in a club or other activity.

Students were rewarded for participating in groups such as the Student Representative Council, College Ambassadors, Peer Mentors, Food Committee, or Math Club. Other honorees engaged in the Art of Debate, Discovery Club, or Careers Club. In addition, several students who took extracurricular art classes received "Director's Choice" awards for images reflecting the Emirati heritage. Chosen for quality and originality, as well as for capturing the spirit of the UAE, these works will be reproduced in a limited edition as gifts for the College's VIP visitors.

Notable students in the College's academic areas (Applied Media, Health Sciences, Education, Business, and IT) received "Outstanding Student" awards. In addition, the ADWC Sports Team inspired a great round of applause for their efforts against other teams in the Higher Sports Federation. The team competed in football, basketball, volleyball, and badminton.

Three students who took extracurricular foreign language courses were rewarded with scholarships for intensive study abroad. Active, committed students in Korean classes, Maitha Al Marzouqi and Haya Obaid Al Dhafiri will study in Korea for two weeks this summer.

Mr. Keejong Chung, Counselor and Deputy Head of Mission at the Korean Embassy, attended the ceremony and presented the students with their awards. Amal Al Busaeedi, an eager German student, will spend two weeks studying at the Goethe-Insitut Manheim-Heidelberg. She received her award from His Excellency Jürgen Steltzer, former German Ambassador to the U.A.E. and Board Member of the Emirati-German Friendship Society.

Dr. Bradley Cook, ADWC's Director, encouraged students to continue achieving in all areas during their time at ADWC.

"You are fine examples of excellence. By educating yourselves and getting involved, you have the power to transform your lives and your community. And that is the power to change the world."
