There are some 13'000 German speaking expats in the UAE and the number is growing constantly. Leading firms from Germany, Switzerland and Austria have established their Middle East headquarters in Dubai or plan to do so.
The guide "Leben und Arbeiten in Dubai" (literally: "Living and Working in Dubai"), published by Berlin-based publication group GD Verlag in Berlin, gives a complete overview of Dubai's economy, free zones, job opportunities, the real estate market, authorities and leisure time options. Despite the economic crisis, Dubai remains an attractive destination for motivated people who want to work abroad.
The 264-pages strong book, which also includes six personal experience reports from German-speaking expats in the UAE, gives not only business advice but also cultural coaching.
"Many European expats fool themselves by judging Dubai as a 'Western city' because of its skyscrapers and tourist attractions. My book also points out Islamic values and the written and unwritten rules expats have to follow in the daily business life in Dubai,"
says Gérard, who was born in Austria, raised in Germany, studied economics in Düsseldorf and London, and worked in Switzerland for many years.
He regularly writes about Middle Eastern markets and Islamic Finance. The guidebook is available online via leading book sales websites.
