Arab Advisors 6th Media and Telecoms Convergence Conference commences in Amman

HRH Princess Sumaya Bint Al Hassan inaugurated the sixth Annual Media and Telecommunications Convergence Conference taking place in Amman on the 1st and 2nd of June.

The massive conference brings together top regional and global media and telecoms industry executives.

The Arab World's telecommunications and broadcast entertainment markets continue to experience strong growth in telecom subscribers and more competition, according to regional research house and conference organizer Arab Advisors Group, a member of the Arab Jordan Investment Bank Group.

"EHSC is seeking to contribute to the renaissance and progress of the Kingdom as a leading and sustainable academic and economic model in the region. A model which invests in technological developments and human dignity," the Princess said; adding that there is a need to enhance the value-added approach in implementing projects of human development.

HRH also called for developing a trans-border framework which aims at moving from consumerism to productivity, and building trust and cooperation through the region.

"Such framework is essential for investment in human resources. It must be based on social, economic and knowledge-based approaches which take into consideration the vital involvement of government, private sector and NGOs in regional development,"
the Princess said.

The official opening ceremony was also addressed by HE Eng. Bassem Rousan (Jordan's Minister of ICT), and on this occasion the minister said, "Convergence presents us with a great opportunity that the Media and Telecom business can greatly benefit from, as new sources of revenue are emerging," said Eng. Basem Rousan, the Minister of Information and Communications Technology.

He added, "The government is committed to providing a flexible legislative and regulatory environment that nurtures competitiveness and reflects the growing convergence in the ICT sector as evident in the Statement of Government Policy 2007 and the new Telecom Law draft which converges the Telecom Regulatory and Visual Audio commissions into one entity."

The annual conference happens on the first Monday of June of every year in Amman, Jordan. As such, the Arab Advisors Group has set the dates for the seventh Annual Media and Telecommunications Convergence Conference 2010 on June 7 & 8 2010.
