Greenroofs have been used widely in some European countries for decades and global interest and acceptance of these systems has grown rapidly in recent years.
LiveRoof is a green roof system developed by a horticulturist in conjunction with a team of experts in the fields of roofing, architecture, soil science, and ergonomics. Growing LiveRoof has been distributed successfully in the United States and Canada under the horticultural expertise of local growers. The plants are grown to maturity so that each LiveRoof module arrives to the job site with fully lush plants inside the container.
The installer then simply sets the modules in place on the rooftop. This approach to green roofs minimizes the required installation time as well as subsequent rooftop plant maintenance to provide an instant, functional green roof. Green roofs reduce stormwater runoff, especially during peak periods, which eases the burden on municipal stormwater systems.
Plants release water as they transpire and they are more reflective than black waterproofing, so they offer a cooling benefit for the building owner which saves money on energy use and also reduces the intake temperature for rooftop HVAC systems. On a larger scale, green roofs contribute to reductions the urban heat island effect, which is the tendency for urban areas with impermeable surfaces to be higher in temperature than the surrounding suburbs.
Amber Poncé, LiveRoof's Business Development Manager adds, "Given the benefits they offer, we anticipate that green roofs will become a large part of Dubai's commitment to reducing the region's carbon footprint. We are pleased to announce our ability to offer LiveRoof through Shatalat Irrigation Services and look forward to participating in the greening of the region."
"With the initiatives of the Dubai Municipality and the Abu Dhabi's Urban Planning Council on green roofs, we are pleased to offer a superior Green Roof system from LiveRoof, the system is simple, effective and attractive being superior in design and implementation to both conventional green roofs and other modular green roof systems,"states Mr. Mohammed Al Quraishi, CEO & Owner of Shatalat Irrigation Services and Renewed Lighting Solutions.
Dubai Municipality has launched green roof initiatives and plans to have green roof applications on all roofs of buildings and houses in Dubai in line with the application of green building specifications in Dubai.
Abu Dhabi's Urban Planning Council recently including green roofs as one of the principal recommendations in its new community guidelines under its Estidama sustainability programme.
