The custom fitted Airbus 320 and its guests were welcomed on arrival by the traditional water salute, organised by the airport's fire brigade to mark the maiden voyage.
"It is an honour for Wataniya Airways to be able to offer flights to this historic region. We have seen tremendous interest in this destination both from Kuwaiti travellers going for business or leisure to Jordan as well as the large number of Jordanians who reside in Kuwait and who plan to travel back for their summer vacation. We are thankful for all the parties involved for their tremendous efforts to make this flight a reality,"said Mr. Abdulsalam Al Bahar, Chairman and Managing Director of Wataniya Airways.
Amman is the fifth Wataniya Airways destination since its inauguration in January 2009. The airline already provides services to Dubai, Bahrain, Cairo and Beirut and will start flying to Damascus and Sharm El Sheikh subsequently. Amman is considered one of the most popular destinations for Kuwait-based travellers, reflecting the long-standing relationship between both countries.
"I am proud that Kuwait and Jordan have reached this level of collaboration as this venture will provide Jordanian and Kuwaiti travellers with an excellent choice to travel in style. Amman has developed into a very modern and sophisticated city and Wataniya Airways, with its focus on premium service, is well placed to help service an increasingly style conscious market," said Kuwait's Ambassador to Jordan, Sheikh Faisal Al-Humoud Al-Malik Al-Sabah.
Wataniya Airways currently operates three brand new A320 aircraft, and received the latest plane directly from Hamburg, Germany on the 20th May. All aircraft have been customised to deliver the same high standard that has become the hallmark of the airline.
Wataniya Airways aircraft have the lowest seating density of any scheduled airline using the A320 with only 122 seats, offering more comfort and leg room to its Premium Economy and First Class guests.
The aircraft also feature innovative OnAir technology enabling the use of mobile telephones in-flight for making calls, sending texts and accessing e-mails and the internet.
"We are extremely delighted that Wataniya Airways will begin a daily service between Queen Alia International Airport and the exclusive Sheikh Saad Terminal. Frequent flyers are looking forward to the premium services offered by Wataniya Airways, especially now that the summer season has begun,"said Curtis Grad, Chief Executive Officer of Airport International Group, the operators of the Queen Alia International Airport in Amman.
Wataniya Airways' website now accepts debit card payments via KNET, providing guests with more payment options and allowing them to save more on their tickets with online reservations.
