The team will be talking to visitors about ADIBF's role as a competent and appropriate platform to boost business in the Arab World and MENA region.

Kitab will be showcasing the following events at the BEA:

Panel: Copyright in the Arab World - Legal Status, Concerns and Best Practices

On 29 May 2009. Chief Librarian of the National Library Dr. David Hirsch will take part in a panel discussion on the legal situation of copyrights in a number of key Arab markets. The session provides an overview of the current copyright issues facing the Arab publishing industry, offers insight into best practices and identifies crucial points and strategies for improvements.

US - Arab Matchmaking Session

On 29 May 2009. Kitab will sponsor and organise a targeted matchmaking session for US and Arab publishers that will give interested parties from both groups an opportunity to meet and network with potential partners. Kitab will subsidise the participation of five Arab publishers at BEA; these delegates will be present at the matchmaking session to interact with interested American publishers.

For 2010 ADIBF and Kitab have a diversity of programmes in store for trade and general visitors to enhance their business in the region, ranging from Spotlight on Rights (a rights subsidy scheme), targeted matchmaking sessions and interactive seminars, to our continuing efforts to improve the distribution system in the Arab World.

These initiatives are complemented by ongoing ADACH projects like Kalima (a translation initiative), the Sheikh Zayed Book Award and others. ADIBF's line-up of professional programmes is of course accentuated by the cultural programmes at the Abu Dhabi International Book Fair, including book signings, panel discussions with authors and academics, poetry performances, a live cooking show and more, as well as reading promotion activities throughout the year.

The first IPA Copyright Symposium in the Arab World will be held in Abu Dhabi from 28 February - 1 March 2010, in conjunction with the ADIBF. Targeted region-specific sessions will focus on the state of copyright in the UAE, the GCC countries and the Arab World and what measures are being implemented to fight piracy. More general sessions will discuss the latest trends in the field of copyrights and provide opportunities to meet new business partners, exchange knowledge and share ideas.

In a variety of interactive seminars, experts will address subjects such as Copyright and Islamic Law, Copyright in Action, Trends and Recent Development in International Copyright Licensing and more.
