Dr. Naseif: 'Development Forum' will discuss the concept of sustainability and review international success stories

Dr Alaa Nassef, General Manager of 'Hadara', the consulting office for business development at 'The Society of Majid bin Abdul Aziz for Development and Social Services' confirmed that the idea of the Social Development Forum which will be held in Jeddah from June 6 - 8, 2009 under the slogan 'From Charitable to Sustainable' is based on strategic partnership with all sectors of society, on top comes the Ministry of Social Affairs.

Dr. Alaa indicated that the Forum will address the issue of sustainable development on two important levels; national and professional to alleviate performance and build the capacity of the non-profit sector by shedding light on the basic concept of the sustainable social development, and reviewing international success stories to deepen the concept.

Dr. Alaa explained that two workshops will be held on the first day of the Forum. While the 1st workshop will focus on enabling participants to apply the concept of sustainable social development, through practical applications in the workshop for shifting of some of the projects based on charitable sponsorship and individual efforts to sustainable development projects, the second workshop will discuss management psychology, which is one of the most prominent factors for the success of institutions in any sector.

In addition, the first day will review the issue of international resolutions and international development plans, including the Millennium goals for the United Nations Development Program, through reviewing Islamic Development Bank's plans and the participation of the Arab Gulf Program for United Nations organizations (AGFUND) with assessment over the realities of the sector.

Dr. Naseif referred to the adoption of the Forum to Ministry of Social Affairs objective to allocate a day of the Forum to discuss best practices and capacity-building of institutions, and non-profit associations, with specialized workshops on the second day of the Forum in all the areas that needed to work in this sector.

The workshops will deal with strategic planning, human resource development, marketing and development, financial resources and investment, and management of development projects. At the same day, a practical theme will address the valuable concepts in development work through meetings with the specialized national financial funds, National Commercial Bank, and through success stories of Women's Associations in the Kingdom.

Naseif added that the major workshop to be held during the Forum is a specialized closed one to conceptualize the national strategy for social development, sponsored by the Ministry of Social Affairs and the Coordinating Council of charitable institutions, which will compose a qualitative leap in the development work.

Dr. Naseif concluded saying, that the most important elements of the success of the Forum is the participation of local and global personnel with papers covering various fields, when the Forum success is based on the activation of partnerships among all, local and international sectors.
