The idea came from a group of green activists students at the school called H.O.P.E (i.e: help our planet earth) who approached Salam Bounian through its active member Ms. Majd Adnan Steitieh with this idea for sponsorship and support.

In line of its social responsibility to preserve the environment Salam Bounian was ready to sponsor the project in order to support and encourage the students to go further with their plan.

The launch was attended by Mr. Adil El Tijani A. Rahman, the Manager of Friends of The Environment Center (FEC), Mr. Mark Sutcliffe, Programme Assistant - Natural Science Section of UNESCO, Mrs. Lyn Webster Deputy Principal of QIS, representatives from Salam Bounian and other attendants.

Mr. Philip Warrilow who is the Head of Science Department at the school and two members of the H.O.P.E group made a power point presentation about the group and their activities and introduced the project to the visitors.

Ms. Isabella Ibrahim, Marketing Executive in Salam Bounian, stated:
"The project is still modest and at an experimental stage and further improvements will be made with the support of Salam Bounian. Implanting the concept of replenish-able, clean and free energy sources into student's minds and practices and making them experiment with it is a very important step to make them feel and realize the facts, challenges and benefits that go along with such a quantum leap in respect of our current knowledge of sources of energy."

It can be said that the first step of a 1000 mile green energy journey among schools has been made by QIS in line with Qatar's vision and direction towards sustainable development, growth and expansion hoping that other schools will be triggered by this green initiative.

Salam Bounian is a private shareholding company incorporated in July 2006 as a real estate investment and development company with a capital amounting to QR500m. The major shareholders are Salam International from Qatar. Massaleh and Wafra from Kuwait and Amwal Invest from Jordan, however the majority are Qatari businessmen.
