The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai ties up with Renaissance Hotel Dubai to launch the Filipino Food Festival

Food lovers will have the chance to sample the unique flavours of Filipino cuisine at the Filipino Food Festival to be held from June 9 to 23 at the Spice Island restaurant of the Renaissance Dubai Hotel.

The Filipino food festival is organised in cooperation with the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, Philippine Business Council and the Renaissance Dubai Hotel.

During the press launch last June 2, Mr. Hassan Yazbek, Renaissance Dubai Hotel's Director of Food and Beverage announced the promotion to the media and commented:
"It is with great honour that we present the Filipino Food Festival at the Renaissance Dubai Hotel together with our partners - Philippine Consulate General in Dubai and the Philippine Business Council. Not only do we have over 40% of our work force, Filipinos, the Filipino cuisine is unique due to its global appeal to different tastes - from Asian, American to Latin as reflected by its rich history and culture. The Filipino food festival which was organized three years ago was a great success and now that we are organizing it again this year, this serves as great news to our international clientele at Spice Island restaurant who are always looking for exotic flavours."


The hotel's resident Filipino Chefs featured at the promotion are namely Chefs Ofelia Fuentes, Norberto Dagonoon and Rina Tecson who all come different regions of the Philippines.

Commenting on the involvement of the Philippine Consulate General in Dubai, H.E. Consul General of Dubai Benito Valeriano, "The Filipino Food promotion at the Renaissance Dubai Hotel is very timely as it coincides with the Philippine Independence Day. It is my hope that the international community will take this opportunity to sample Filipino cuisine which is a melting pot of flavors - of both East and West and for our compatriots to try the food that they have been missing." There are over 400,000 Filipinos in the whole UAE.

Expect to go on a culinary road trip during the Filipino Food promotion and discover its' rich culinary influences ranging from Spanish, Mexican, American, Chinese, Japanese, Arab, Indian and Malay. Spice Island will feature popular dishes such as the national dish, Chicken Adobo (chicken braised in garlic), Oxtail Kare-Kare (Oxtail in Peanut sauce), Beef Steak Tagalog and Pancit Bihon (thin rice noodles fried with soy sauce and some citrus), Fish Kilawin (Fish cured in vinegar) are only some of delicious items on the buffet.

Lumpiang Shanghai (Spring Rolls) and Chicken barbecue among others will be cooked at the live cooking station. There will be delicious desserts made of exotic tropical fruits unlimited San Miguel beer, the famous Filipino beer.
