This latest achievement is considered a valuable development which the Government of Iraq should take into consideration when addressing Asiacell's request for the Government to reconsider its recent decision to impose a $1.1m fine on the company, which was demanded under the allegation that the company has infringed the contract it signed with the Iraqi Government and the network rollout conditions specified under the terms of its operating license, which involves the improvement of the level of services provided to subscribers.
Asiacell considers this fine unjustified even in light of the unstable economic and security conditions and the reduced oil prices the country is undergoing, all of which must be placing additional pressure on the Iraqi Government; such a fine stands in the way of Asiacell's aims to enhance the service infrastructure in Iraq.
Commending on this accomplishment, Mr. Hawdang Baban, Asiacell's Project Management Manager, said:
"We are very proud of our success in building 100 communication towers, which positions us as the first mobile telecom company in Iraq to do so. We expect that this accomplishment will yield great benefits to the Iraqi people, and we promise to continue our work unwaveringly regardless of the obstacles in our path. We have carefully studied the various aspects of this step before implementing it and have ascertained that we have both the needed technical capabilities and human resources. We look forward to seeing the Government take a more supportive role of not only Asiacell, but also of all those who contribute to building the new Iraq."
Asiacell's establishment of 100 communication towers comes as part of its efforts to build on its previous successes. Asiacell was categorized as one of the ten fastest growing mobile telecom companies in the Middle East and Africa region in a recent study published by The Mobile World, a market data and analysis company focused exclusively on the mobile telecommunications sector.
