Dubai SME, the agency of the Department of Economic Development in Dubai (DED) mandated to develop the small and medium enterprise (SME) sector, has concluded its Intelaq entrepreneur training programme launched in October 2012 with 20 participants graduating in the first batch.
The programme included a minimum of 10 Arabic lectures spread across 40 hours of theory and practicals focusing on Intelaq's role in promoting the entry of UAE nationals into the world of entrepreneurship through licensing support and advisory functions.
The participants learnt how to start and manage a project from home and achieve the desired results.
Abdul Baset Al Janahi, Chief Executive Officer, Dubai SME, said, "The Intelaq entrepreneur training programme confirms our commitment to promoting the SME sector. Micro-enterprises managed by UAE nationals, even from their homes, can significantly boost the entrepreneurial skills among young Emiratis. Dubai SME works to provide the highest level of support to Intelaq trainees and their investment projects in various fields."
"A good understanding of marketing strategies helps the entrepreneur to choose the most suitable means of marketing, especially with social media and advanced technology presenting various possibilities. A recent survey of the local market showed that national entrepreneurs interact successfully with local businesses, sharing innovative ideas," said Abdelaziz Al Mazam, Senior Manager Business Start-up and Development in Dubai SME.
The training programme focused on self-assessment mechanisms, ways to choose the right project, primary issues facing project owners, ways to ensure optimum visibility of products in the market and the administrative as well as financial aspects of marketing.
Intelaq licenses are issued to UAE nationals interested in setting up and operating their own businesses single-handedly from home. The application fee for these licenses, which are issued on an annual basis, has been fixed at Dhs1,000. Licenses are only issued to those businesses which will not cause any pollution, traffic jams, or harm to neighbours.
