In line with the event, Sanyo visited different schools to conduct presentations about the importance of protecting the environment against hazardous waste materials, and to discuss Sanyo's "Think GAIA" vision and the practical benefits and advantages of Sanyo's popular line of rechargeable battery, Eneloop.

The Emirates Environmental Group-Sanyo Used Battery Collection Campaign has now collected a total of 487 kilograms of batteries for this year, which will be properly disposed of to prevent them from contaminating the environment. Out of the 20 schools that participated in the pilot phase, the top three winning schools - Dubai National School, Dubai Gem Private School and the Abu Dhabi Community School - which collected the highest number of batteries were awarded with prizes such as projectors and cameras from Sanyo.

Hiroyuki Tanaka, General Manager, Consumer Electronics and Audio Visual, Sanyo Gulf FZE said:
"We strongly believe in the value of grassroots-based initiatives, which is why Sanyo continues to sponsor the Emirates Environmental Group Used Battery Collection Campaign to mark the annual celebration of World Environment Day. The response from the schools has been very encouraging, while the awareness campaign has helped generate significant interest and support from the students in our efforts to protect the environment."

"Sanyo is fully committed to fulfill its obligations of corporate social responsibility not just by our active participation in civic-oriented activities, but by developing eco-friendly products and solutions that help maintain a safe and healthy environment. Sanyo will continue to work closely with various community groups to raise environmental awareness and encourage people in the grassroots level to actively take part in protecting the environment," added Tanaka.

Sanyo's long-term commitment to the campaign started in 2006 when it signed a three-year sponsorship deal to mark the launch of Eneloop, Sanyo's eco-friendly battery that can be recharged up to 1,000 times, is resistant to self-discharge and comes with an eco-friendly packaging design.

Sanyo and Emirates Environmental Group renewed their commitment to the Emirates Environmental Group-Sanyo Used Battery Collection Campaign when they recently signed another three-year agreement for the project- renewable on a yearly basis.
