Held in collaboration with Al Wasl Hospital and Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center, the initiative saw a total of 323 donors participate in the drive, a 75% increase from the previous cycle held in 2008.

For the first time, volunteers from Dubai International Academic City participated in the initiative that also witnessed staff members and business partners from other Tecom Investments entities such as Dubai Internet City, Dubai Media City, and Dubai Knowledge Village taking part to donate blood.

Abdullatif AlMulla, Group CEO, Tecom Investments, said:
"Tecom's blood donation drives strongly reflect our commitment to corporate social responsibility initiatives which we regard as one of our core priorities. As a committed corporate citizen, we are keen to contribute to improving the lives of everyone who calls the UAE their home."

Tecom will hold its second cycle of the blood donation drive in the fourth quarter of this year.

Bader Al Zarei, Acting Executive Director of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, said, "Once again, the Tecom community, including our business partners and employees have stepped up and shown their willingness to extend their support to the campaign. This initiative is a central part of TECOM's CSR activities, and year after year, we have witnessed substantial increase in the number of participants."

Medical experts suggest that healthy individuals should donate blood three to four times a year, as 25% of the community is likely to require blood at some point in their lifetime.

Nadia Abdulla Kalantar, Head Of Marketing & Blood Donor Recruitment, Dubai Health Authority and Medical Services of Al Wasl Hospital, said, "Tecom's support in the blood donation drives in the past several years has been invaluable. The importance of donating blood cannot be understated as there are benefits to both the donor and the recipient. When an individual donates blood, we perform the necessary checks to ensure that no serious illness or disease is present in the donor. If the tests reveal something out of the ordinary, we immediately inform the donor to take necessary action."

Dr. Mahra Al Marzouqi, Director, Sharjah Blood Transfusion and Research Center, said, "The blood collected during this campaign is distributed to desperate patients throughout the UAE. The Tecom Investments initiative provided us an opportunity to extend a helping hand to the citizens and residents and we are grateful to the business clusters for enthusiastically participating in this drive."

As a pioneering organisation in the UAE, Tecom Investments hosts community-related events and supports social initiatives to demonstrate its commitment to corporate social responsibility programmes.
