DNRD announces increase in passengers travelling through ports in Q1 2009

The number of passengers travelling through Port Rashid in Dubai increased to 85,744 in the first quarter of 2009, from 64,952 in the same period last year, announced Major General Mohammed Ahmad Al Marri, Director General of the Dubai Naturalisation and Residency Department (DNRD).

This announcement was made during an inspection of the sea ports including Port Rashid, Jebel Ali Port, Shindagha Port and Hamriya Port, and managed by the DNRD to identify current procedures and services and ascertain development areas.

Major General Al Marri stated that Jebel Ali Port received approximately 67,000 sailors in the first quarter of 2009 and processed applications for 750 crew members on average per day. During his visit, Al Marri checked the new passengers building at Jebel Ali Port which is officially due to launch later this month.

The Director General of DNRD also toured the Shindagha Port which processes an average of 800 transactions per day including entry and departure applications for sailors. He ended the tour at the Hamriyah Port where he checked the functional processes and procedures.

Stated Al Marri:
"The sea ports staff members have excelled and worked in the spirit of cooperation and collaboration to achieve our strategic objective of providing world class services and achieving maximum customer satisfaction."
