Air Miles steps forward to protect the environment

  • United Arab Emirates: Tuesday, June 16 - 2009 at 16:16
  • PRESS RELEASE

As an official sponsor of EnviroFone's national mobile phone recycling initiative, Air Miles - the world's leading multi-participant loyalty programme - is giving away 120,000 Air Miles every month, until the end of the year, in an attempt to reward UAE residents for being socially responsible by recycling old mobile devices.

To be eligible to win, residents must deposit an old mobile phone or similar-sized electronic device, such as a TV remote control or computer mouse, in one of Envirofone's Air Miles branded dropboxes which are strategically located at supermarket chains, shopping malls, petrol stations, banks and schools across the UAE.

Fiona Leslie, Air Miles' Head of PR and Marketing said: "We are committed to raising awareness of environmental initiatives like this. It is a great way to educate people about the detrimental effect that electronic waste has on the environment and to show that it is possible, using EnviroFone dropboxes, to dispose of mobile phones or electronic devices properly.

"It is a privilege to be an official sponsor for a scheme which encourages individuals to mitigate their personal impact on the environment. We hope that by offering incentive Air Miles each month, we can motivate more people to take action."

added Leslie.

The promotion - which runs until the end of the year - will consist of a monthly draw where three winners will be selected at random to win 20,000, 40,000 or 60,000 Air Miles. Any winners who are not already members will be able to redeem their prize once they have signed up for a free-to-join Air Miles Card.
