The delegation of five Emirati students from Zayed University will visit Germany under the 'Innovation Culture Project' from June 21-26, 2009.
The project is initiated and supported by the S.S. Lootah Group as part of its 'Community Program' activities, and aims to promote and create a culture that supports innovation. An orientation about the trip was held on Thursday, 18th June at the Group headquarters.

The students will visit Hamburg and Berlin and will investigate how innovation is sustained in Germany, by studying its application in different walks of life. The cities, with their world-renowned universities and scientific organisations, present a wide research spectrum with diverse projects.

The students will visit the University of Berlin and Fraunhofer, Europe's leading research institute, to experience firsthand the culture that has enabled Germany to be recognised as one of the world's three most innovative countries, with Europe's highest patent registrations.

Fatma Lootah, Manager, Community Programs of S.S. Lootah Group, commented:
"We chose Germany for this program as it symbolises innovation as a way of life. Student field trips such as this, aim to enhance their personal and professional development in the areas of leadership, innovation and sustainability, contributing towards a competitive knowledge economy."

The Program is supported by the UAE embassy in Germany, the Hamburg Representative Office Dubai, the Emirati-German Joint Council for Industry and Trade (AHK UAE) and S.S. Lootah Group German partners Fraunhofer.

Dr. Sulaiman Al Jassim, Vice President of Zayed University, stressed the importance of such programs in enhancing the knowledge, critical thinking, and leadership skills of the students, in a way that qualifies them to shoulder their responsibilities in the service and development of their community.

He added, "Our students are committed to excellence and fully equipped to compete and thrive in a global environment. I thank the S.S. Lootah Group for recognising the potential of our students and providing them with this opportunity to acquire knowledge and improve their skills."

The students were nominated by the university based on their diversified academic approach combining learning and practice, in fields ranging from design and IT to humanities and international studies.
