The announcement was made during the "Functional Nutrients for Eye Health" symposium that was held in the Movenpick hotel under the patronage of the Lebanese Pediatric Society and with the presence of 200 doctors.

Progress is the first growing up milk to contain lutein for eye health in specially designed, age-appropriate formulas for children up to three years of age.

Studies conducted over recent years have uncovered the potentially protective role of lutein for children's eyes. Lutein, a natural pigment commonly present in breast milk, is a key complement nutrient that may help protect the eye from harmful blue light and may and from oxidative damage.

Children see the beauty of the world and learn through their eyes. They take in tons of information about the world around them — shapes, colors, movements and more. At birth, children's eyes are still developing and will continue to mature during the first few years. During these early years, their eyes are especially sensitive to light, and thus protecting them from this light becomes critically important.

Blue light is the highest energy wavelength of visible light. Approximately 70% of this blue light reaches children's retina ranging from 0 month to 10 year olds. Research indicates that lutein, as the predominant macular pigment in the retina, is able to filter blue light and protect the eye.

With the addition of lutein, the Wyeth Gold milk formula range now features a more complete Wyeth Biofactors System to ensure that children get the biofactor (nutrient) to help protect and support their eyes as they develop.
