  • PRESS RELEASE

Minister of Social Affairs Her Excellency Maryam Khalfan Al Roumi recently opened the Forsaty pavilion, a centre for marketing goods produced as part of a programme enabling local families to earn through household production.

The inauguration was attended by Laila Suhail, Chief Executive Officer of Dubai Shopping Festival Office, Ibrahim Saleh, Coordinator General of DSF Office, and Afraa Bu Hmeid, Director of the Productive Family Programme at the Ministry of Social Affairs.

The products displayed for sale at the centre included local handicrafts, small scale industrial goods, cosmetics, garments, accessories, and perfumes.

Her Excellency Al Roumi expressed appreciation for the DSF Office's efforts in providing an eminent presence for the Productive Families Programme at Modhesh World, the region's largest indoor theme park, which is visited by in excess of 3000 visitors daily.

HE Al Roumi noted:
"The presence of 'Forsaty' at Modhesh World along with the other social development centres nationwide is a platform for Emarati women to showcase their entrepreneurial skills and to help transform those skills in a meaningful way through the assistance offered by government departments under the supervision of the Social Affairs Ministry."

"The Ministry effectively participates in several events noted for their high turnouts, including DSS, Global Village, equestrian races, etc. We recently launched an initiative in association with a number of institutions in order to employ social security beneficiaries," she added, elaborating that the Ministry aims to employ 600 of such beneficiaries by the end of this year.

On her part, Laila Suhail paid tribute to the Ministry of Social Affair's tireless efforts to launch effective initiatives to assist the Productive Families programme.

"The visit of HE Mariam Mohamed Khalfan Al Roumi fits within the context of the continued cooperation between the Ministry, the Department of Economic Development and the Dubai Shopping Festival Office, being one of the effective contributors to the Productive Families Programme's activities," she added.

"It goes without saying that the presence of 24 of these families at Modhesh World is one result of this continued cooperation and coordination between the two parties and there are more mutual cooperation initiatives in the offing," she added.

In excess of 3,000 visitors come into Modhesh City daily and they increase up to 7,000 during the weekends, a large footfall which is likely to provide the productive families with a strong clientele base, Laila explained.

The minister was shown around the different themed-zones of Modhesh World and the activities displayed by the different pavilions.
