An international initiative of NZTE, the Middle East Beachhead programme was launched in Dubai in 2005. The Middle East Beachhead Advisory Board was created in 2007 and currently has five advisors covering a wide range of economic sectors across the Middle East & Africa region.
According to Hesham Salah, NZTE's Middle East Beachhead Programme Manager:
"The Beachhead programme caters to businesses from various industries, including construction, healthcare, ICT, education, and food and beverage. These have been identified as high-growth potential sectors in the region and we aim to bring New Zealand expertise and innovation to meet the needs of the market."
New Zealand companies that have recently joined the programme include A-ward Attachments, a company that provides solutions for the demolition and recycling industries; Cognition Consulting, an education consultancy; and OpenCloud, innovative providers of new generation real-time Application Servers for the telecommunications industry.
Recently, New Zealand born Dr. Shane Reti, International Programme Director for the Division of Clinical Informatics at Harvard Medical School, was appointed to the Beachhead Advisory Board. His role at Harvard Medical School also includes project managing the Joslin-HMFP-Dubai diabetes initiative, and the licensing of all health professionals in the Emirate of Dubai.
Commenting on Dr Reti's appointment, Mahmoud Haidar, Chair of the Middle East Beachhead Advisory Board, said: "This will further strengthen the advice and support services our members receive. Dr Reti has an in-depth knowledge of the health sector in the UAE and the Gulf region."
Other advisors to the Middle East Beachheads Programme include Eli Khoury, Chairman and CEO of Saatchi & Saatchi Levant and Quantum Communications, Lebanon; Ross Officer, Head of Corporate Banking - Western Province, The Saudi British Bank, KSA; and Michael Wilde, a senior executive based in Dubai.
