  • PRESS RELEASE

International Quality and Productivity Center (IQPC), the global provider of tailored, industry-driven conferences, announced today the dates for the 4th Annual Corrosion Management Summit 2009.

The two-day conference, with five interactive workshops, will take place in Abu Dhabi from 11 - 14 October 2009 at the Hilton Abu Dhabi Hotel.

Industry leaders will gather to discuss their achievements in optimizing corrosion management techniques to prevent spills, plant shutdown, loss of income and production. The very latest industry challenges will be addressed and attendees can immerse themselves in topical discussions through interactive panel sessions. The summit is endorsed by NACE and supported by Egyptian Corrosion Society and Libyan Corrosion Society. The world-class speaker panel includes senior representatives from: Qatar Shell, GASCO, Saudi Aramco, Takreer, Qatargas, ADNOC Group, PDO and SABIC.

Sandra Hijnen, Conference Director, says:
"Corrosion management is vital to an organization, not only to prevent accidents and spills, but also to prevent plant shutdown, loss of income and production. The importance of corrosion management in a time of economic strain is shown by the positive response received from senior level industry experts confirming to speak at the summit. We are delighted to work with industry associations: NACE, Egyptian Corrosion Society and Libyan Corrosion Society to make this a must-attend event."

Vice President of NACE International, Dr. Chris Fowler, is chairing the summit and NACE Section Chairmen Abu Dhabi, Oman and Libya will also participate.

Dr. Fowler will also facilitate the workshop "NACE update on sour service standards - 2nd Edition ISO 15156/NACE MR0175" and stated, "Following last year's successful event, the 4th Annual Corrosion Management Summit looks to update and develop the initiatives presented. A range of high-caliber speakers have been invited and in addition, workshops and facilitated panel discussions will take place."

Dr. Fowler added, "Asset management and economic oil and gas production are the very essence for worldwide prosperity, particularly in this stringent economic climate. This event aims to focus on how lifetimes can be extended, assets can be maintained, and also provide information for future developments with extended life. This is a participation event and all attendees should leave with extended knowledge of asset management and material selection. Corrosion engineers and all levels of management are encouraged to attend as the discussions benefit from having a diverse range of opinions and views."

Dr. Oluwatoyin Ashiru, Failure Analysis Senior Staff Engineer at Saudi Basic Industries Corporation (SABIC) reflected on the importance of Corrosion Monitoring by quoting Lord Kelvin: "You do not understand anything unless you can measure it" and Natural Extrapolation: "The ability to measure something allows one to control it".

He evaluated the multiple benefits of Corrosion Monitoring, "Corrosion monitoring is a diagnostic tool to track plant operation to flag significant process changes. It provides a management tool to assist the Asset Integrity Management Team in the decision making process. It also helps operations meet increasingly rigorous health, safety and environmental needs by anticipating/preventing accidents and unwanted crude discharges."
