University Hospital at DHCC scoops award for 'Best Hospital Design of Future'

The University Hospital, part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center of Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), a member of Tatweer, today announced its achievement of receiving the 'Best Hospital Design of the Future' Award at the inaugural Hospital Build Middle East Exhibition and Congress in Dubai.

The Hospital Build Awards recognizes excellence in design, operation and management of healthcare facilities in the Middle East. It is an independent and prestigious endorsement of the quality of Middle East based healthcare designers, managers and companies and organizations.

Jim Kingsbury, Chief Executive Officer of University Hospital, said:
"This award reinforces the vision of Dubai's leadership for the University Hospital to define a new standard for healthcare excellence in the region with the latest advances in clinical care, exceptional educational resources and robust biomedical, clinical and health services research programs. The 400-bed tertiary medical center will offer centers of excellence in Oncology, Neurosciences, Musculoskeletal Medicine and Orthopedics, Women's Health, Cardiovascular & Thoracic Services and Endocrinology, Diabetes and Metabolic Disease."


Kamil Eid, Manager of Health Services for HDP (Overseas) Limited and a member of the judging panel, said, "We were impressed with the number of nominations we received for the Awards and believe this reflects the need for a program of this kind to recognize good practice in constructing new healthcare facilities in the region."

University Hospital forms part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center (AMC) with the integration of its other entities Harvard Medical School Dubai Center Institute for Postgraduate Education & Research, Al Maktoum Harvard Medical Library, Dubai Harvard Foundation for Medical Research, and Boston University Institute for Dental Research and Education Dubai.

The AMC serves an important role in moving Dubai and the region successfully toward the quality and workforce development targets established in the strategic vision 2015 mandate for the healthcare sector and in addressing the important mission of advancing clinical care, education, medical research and community service.

The Academic Medical Center supports the government's healthcare strategy by introducing new standards for healthcare excellence in the region, exceptional educational resource for physicians, nurses and healthcare professionals, and robust clinical and health services research programs. All healthcare professionals in the medical center will be supported by evidence based medicine as the foundation of practice and will adhere to the stringent international standards for licensure and credentials that are set by the Center for Healthcare Planning and Quality (CPQ).

University Hospital, as part of the Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum Academic Medical Center, will function as the main tertiary care facility within Dubai Healthcare City (DHCC), enhancing its global status as an integrated center of excellence in clinical care and wellness services, medical education and research.
