"The Slipway was closed in order to give the public opportunity to finalize registration and insurance of Jet Skis and enhance the compliance with the safety and security stipulations of maritime leisure activities. Al Mamzar Slipway was closed for two days starting from 09/06/2009 and the blocks have been removed and the Slipway reopened on 11/06/2009."
Al Saffar added, "Closure of the Slipway was carried out in conformity with the provisions of Order No. 3/2008 regarding the Use and Licensing of Jet Skis in the Emirate of Dubai issued on 17/06/2008. Several complaints were received from Ports Police Station and Coastguard HQ about the difficulty of taking law-enforcement measures against Jet Ski violators at Al Mamzar Creek who are threatening the general safety. Moreover, boats slipway at Al Mamzar Creek has been subject to construction works during that period to improve the infrastructure."
Marine Agency has recently launched Jet Ski Registration and licensing process as an initial step to streamline the practice of this activity. The area extending between Jumeirah 3 and Umm Suqeim 1 has been designated for practicing Jet Skiing for individuals, while Al Mamzar site has been designated for Jet Skiing for companies. Grid references of these areas have been demarcated so that Jet Skiing can be practiced in coordination with Coastguard HQ and Ports Police Station. Work is in hand to erect 40 cautionary signs to explain the areas where the use of Jet Skis is prohibited for public safety.
