Deira City Centre to host opening of World Game Championship 2009

After the tremendous success of last year's Dubai World Game Championship, Index Conferences and Exhibitions and Magic Planet are gearing up for another season of full-on competition beginning on July 10th at Deira City Centre.

The event will have the digital games Counter Strike, Warcraft, Guitar Hero, Virtua Tennis, Street Fighter and Pro Evolution Soccer, and three arcade games including American High Striker, Sega Rally, and Deal or No Deal.

The elimination rounds will take place at various outlets of Magic Planet, the region's leading family entertainment centre, in the UAE, Bahrain and Oman from July until September. The final contestants will battle it out for the chance to win top prizes at Dubai World Game Expo at the city's World Trade Centre from October 27-29, 2009.

According to Eng. Anas Al Madani, Vice President of Index Holding, the organisers of the biggest games competition, "It is a privilege for us to organise the next sequel of this exciting event, where we expect gaming fans show their styles, strategic wit and teamwork as they pit their wits against the best players in the region. Gaming has never been so upbeat and exhilarating."

Silvio Liedtke, General Manager, Magic Planet, is looking forward to the opening event and wants fans from all around the region to gear up. "This is exactly what Magic Planet is here for," he said. "The entertainment, the competition, the fun and the sheer excitement is wonderful to see and we are extremely proud to play such a large part in this cult event."

"There are literally hundreds of thousands of game players in this region who should make the most of this opportunity," he added.

Prizes are up for grabs and the winning UAE team/nationals will have the chance to represent their country in the upcoming World Cyber Games in Chengdu, China.
