"Public Transport Agency has so far sold more than 618,000 e-Bus cards providing holders 10 journeys i.e. each passenger will get one complimentary journey" and the (e-Bus) Cards will still be utilized even after the launching of NOL Cards until the stock lasts."
He added, "The key objective underlying the launch of this card is to step-up the operational efficiency of buses through cutting the time fraction spent by the driver in issuing and handing over paper tickets to passengers, whereas this modern method is set to enhance driver productivity, speed-up ticketing process for both the driver and passenger; thanks to the installation of easy-to-use systems suitable to all occupations and age groups. This method is thought to be the best automatic fare calculation system that ensures every passenger has paid the prescribed fare before boarding the bus, and this effective system obviates the need for dealing in coin currencies.
"Application of this system is an integral part of the Master Plan to upgrade and broaden public buses; a crucial step for encouraging people to use public buses which will effectively contribute to the integration of other transport modes. This is particularly relevant as a Unified Card will be launched for use in all mass transport modes, including marine transport and metro," continued Al Dossari.
