Emirates NBD and Etisalat collaborate to launch mobile banking

  • United Arab Emirates: Monday, July 06 - 2009 at 14:34
  • PRESS RELEASE

Emirates NBD the largest bank in terms of assets within the region will partner with Etisalat to launch a new state-of-the-art mobile banking service.

This new service will offer customers the convenience of banking on the move.

Customers will be able to make account balance inquiries, transfer funds, pay their credit card bills and make payments to Etisalat, RTA, Fly Dubai, FEWA, and more others.

Using the USSD (Unstructured Supplementary Service Data), GSM mobile users will be able to select the desired banking service from a menu on their mobile phone. Through the use of an advanced form of technology, the mobile phone is linked to the user's bank account and cards in a very safe manner. A highly secure anti-fraud system will be set into place.

Unlike SMS, USSD is a session oriented service that is simple and easy to use. The USSD service provides an interactive experience similar to internet browsing. However it doesn't need a special mobile phone or a mobile internet subscription making it a convenient and simple option for all customers. Customers of Emirates NBD with international roaming enabled on their mobile phones will be able to complete all the above transactions from wherever they are, anywhere in the world.

Commenting on this unique and advanced service, Mr. Mohamed Al Falasi, SVP / Head of Direct Sales and Alternate Channels said,

"Emirates NBD is the first bank to sign a mobile banking service agreement with Etisalat in the UAE. With this new technology, we are offering our customers the latest payment methods and adding yet another advanced, creative and convenient service to our network of diverse banking channels."

According to Abdulla Hashim, VP, Business Solutions, Etisalat, "We are very happy to sign this agreement with Emirates NBD to launch this innovative mobile banking service considering Emirates NBD's pioneering status in adopting the latest technology to benefit its customers. Etisalat's considerable expertise and knowledge in mobile payments will be a great asset for Emirates NBD in rolling out a comprehensive and convenient solution for its customers."

Mobile banking introduces a new frontier within the financial sector. As the region's banking champion, Emirates NBD provides the latest, most innovative and technologically advanced banking methods. Emirates NBD ensures that their valued customers are presented with up to date goods, products and services.
