SPE and EAGE conference addresses 'Overcoming Modeling Challenges to Optimize Recovery'

With its theme and its seventeen focused sessions, RCSC, co-organized by the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE) and the European Association of Geoscientists and Engineers (EAGE), will demonstrate the significance of reservoir characterization in maximizing hydrocarbon recovery by providing an appropriate backdrop for discussion and bringing together many of the world's most specialized professionals in the field.

Abdulla Al Ajimi, Programme Committee Cochairman, said, "The fact that the world average oil recovery is estimated at 35%, which means that around 65% of the discovered oil remains in the ground dictates the pursuit of new applications and processes to enhance their recovery. RCSC is one of the largest focused events that offers a platform for international professionals in reservoir characterization and modeling to discuss new technologies, economic viability and effective reservoir strategies that can enhance recovery."

Concerns with optimizing recovery underlines the importance of seeking new Modeling processes and technologies while working on overcoming the challenges associated with them. Such challenges will be discussed during sessions entitled "Overcoming Compositional Modeling Challenges for EOR Challenges" and "The Future Outlook."

During three days of concurrent sessions, leading minds in the field will meet to share their experiences on over 17 specific reservoir characterisation topics including static modelling, upscaling technologies, EOR, field development optimisation and complex well modelling, reservoir characterization, dynamic Modeling advances, integrated asset modelling, uncertainty analysis and multiple realizations, fluid characterization and compositional modelling, work flow process, geomechanics, development of transition zones, tarmats, unconventional reservoirs, heavy oil reservoirs, and reservoir monitoring/management.

In addition to over 60 presentations, RCSC includes features such as networking sessions and a short course which will maximize the value of attending this event. A small exhibition will be held in conjunction with the conference where organizations will have the opportunity to showcase their products and services to conference delegates and key industry professionals in the field. The event is sponsored by ADNOC, Saudi Aramco, JODCO and Schlumberger.

RCSC is expecting delegates from both the organizing societies in addition to technical professionals involved in reservoir characterization, simulation and modeling including petroleum engineers, geologists, geophysicists, and other technologists; in addition to local industry key figures.
