  • PRESS RELEASE

In the true global village that we live in today, hundreds of millions of emails and messages are exchanged over telecom networks, which sometimes leads to network congestion. When this happens, service quality and reliability are affected.

Hence, telecom operators always attempt to combat traffic congestion as a way of guaranteeing broadband service quality.

In the mobile satellite services (MSS) category in particular, Thuraya Telecommunications Company boasts having a network which has been built, by design, to manage high traffic efficiently. Hence, the Company has a congestion-free network that ensures high-quality, speedy data services for users of Thuraya's broadband solution, ThurayaIP.

"Thuraya's broadband customers are always connected to the network from the moment they switch their ThurayaIP terminal on and are guaranteed that any data sent will reach its target end user rapidly," said Thuraya's Executive Manager Technology Services, Mr. Ahmed Al Shamsi.

"Thuraya is able to provide broadband users the ability to connect to the Thuraya satellite network immediately because it can handle a large number of simultaneous users per beam," added Mr. Al Shamsi.

Additionally, within each specific beam the Thuraya satellite has abundant power and this power can be concentrated to cope with traffic demand. In addition, the Thuraya satellite network automatically and dynamically allocates its power to users the minute their ThurayaIP terminal is switched on.

According to Mr. Al Shamsi,

"Thanks to Thuraya's satellite design, the location and number of ThurayaIP terminals in use is neither a burden on the satellite nor the end user because anyone using ThurayaIP is immediately allocated bandwidth resources."

Customers of broadband solutions in addition to asking for congestion-free networks require small, compact and fast solutions. ThurayaIP is one of the smallest in the market (A5 sized and a third of the size of other available satellite broadband products). It weighs 1300 grams, enhancing its portability and it supports fast data transmission speeds. ThurayaIP has a maximum transmission speed of up to 444 Kbps and a video-streaming capability of up to 384 Kbps.

Moreover, ThurayaIP is flexibly designed permitting customers the choice of uplink and downlink speeds. Furthermore, ThurayaIP does not require any specialised software for it to work-it is a simple plug and play system making it a user-friendly broadband alternative.

To further enhance ThurayaIP's services, the Company established a Point Of Presence (POP) in its Sharjah-based gateway as well as a Meet Me Point (MMP) based in Telehouse, London. Both infrastructures ensure end-to-end data transfer, while using StreamingIP, of supreme quality via ThurayaIP's robust network.

Several target segments have shown positive interest in ThurayaIP since its launch such as the media, government, NGOs and oil and gas industry.
