This initiative was part of the group's main aims to assess and identify opportunities for children with special needs to be integrated within standard mainstream programs and activities.

The campers were encouraged to take advantage of everything the camp has to offer, including participating in all activities and interacting with typical peers.

Campers who require full-time support were assisted by an adult guardian at all times including fieldtrips, in order to maximize their comfort and inclusion. Prior to the start of camp, counsellors and staff were provided with sensitization training.

The camp is open to children between 6 - 12 years where activities and classes will be organised into different age groups.

All activities have been designed to cater to the skill-levels of each age group and further develop their social, physical, intellectual and artistic abilities. The program will include lessons in music, art, fitness and health. There will also be weekly educational field trips and special visits from professionals to teach children valuable life skills such as first aid, dental hygiene and eye care.

Enrolment for the second batch of Confident Kids Summer Camp is now open. Camp will commence on 12 July until 6 August, 2009.

Down syndrome
Down syndrome is a set of mental and physical symptoms that result from having an extra copy of Chromosome 21, which changes the body's and brain's structure.

Even though people with DS may have some physical and mental features in common, symptoms can range from mild to severe. Most people with DS have IQs that fall in the mild to moderate range of mental retardation. They may have delayed language development and slow motor development. Some common physical signs of DS include: Flat face with an upward slant to the eye, short neck, and abnormally shaped ears as well as small hands and feet.

Besides, they may have several other health conditions, including hearing problems, eye problems, thyroid dysfunctions as well as dementia. DS is not a condition that can be cured. However, early medical intervention can help many people with DS live productive lives well into adulthood. The chance of having a baby with Down Syndrome increases as a woman gets older.
