The programme titled 'Smart' was brought on-line yesterday as part of one more initiative to boost quality and standards in the department and to instill confidence among the employees.
The Press Conference was chaired by DTCM Director General, Khalid A. bin Sulayem and attended by DTCM Director Operations and Marketing, Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb, DTCM Deputy Manager Media and Advertising, Ahmed Al Tunaiji and senior officials from the department.
Mr. bin Sulayem said that to boost quality and standards in the department and to instill confidence among the employees. 'Keeping this in mind, we have gone on-line with our Employees Suggestion Scheme so that our staff contribute their ideas and inputs anytime anywhere by simply logging in to the net,' he said.
Explaining the advantage of making SMART on-line, Mr. bin Sulayem stated: 'It will help the DTCM SMART committee to review their as well as others' suggestions and will also help us posted with fresh ideas. It will also help employees to know whether their ideas have been accepted and implemented or not as the system will keep them posted'.
All DTCM employees, locally as well as overseas are entitled to make suggestions on any sphere of activity relating to the department regardless of their position including suggestions to improve products or enhancing services. A specially created SMART committee will process the accepted suggestions through an electronic voting system. 'The ideas and inputs offered by the employees will not only enhance their self confidence but can also bring radical improvement in our existing way of functioning,' said Mr. bin Sulayem.
Mr. bin Hareb stressed that the new system would infuse greater confidence in the employees, which will in turn further boost productivity and promote positive work culture. 'We will give a chance to employees to study, analyse and offer their comments about the functioning of the organisation. This will not only give them confidence but would also infuse in them a sense of belonging to the organisation,' he said.
Mr. bin Hareb said that the site is informative and details about its characteristics and features. 'The site gives us information about SMART and its process, usage and benefits,' he added.
Ahmed Al Tunaiji who is also the Chairman of the SMART Committee revealed that the SMART, which will be open for suggestions from our overseas offices also, has two versions Arabic and English. 'We wanted to give an opportunity to our employees to express their ideas more clearly and freely,' said Mr. Al Tunaiji.
Explaining the working procedure of the SMART Committee, Mr. Al Tunaiji said: 'Once the committee receives suggestions from employees, we go through them carefully and forward the selected suggestions to the concerned department's for feedback. After receiving the comments from the concerned departments a detailed study is made again and a judicious selection of the most appropriate and apt suggestions is done. Employee's whose proposals are selected will be rewarded'.
He clarified that the SMART site could be accessed not only by DTCM employees but also by general public who wish to know about the department's interest in its employees' welfare and betterment. 'Though general public can not participate in our employees suggestion scheme, it can give them an overview of DTCM's policies and procedures and how we are striving to create a better working atmosphere,' said Mr. Al Tunaiji
Mr. Al Tunaiji explained the procedure for logging and operating the SMART programme is simple: 'It is true that you should have some basic computer skills to participate, but you certainly do no need to know very much, only a simple elementary knowledge of computer is sufficient'.
He said that this system would also help us monitor the performance of each department in submitting their suggestions. 'We can get daily, weekly, monthly or yearly records of each department and can assess their performance of submitting their ideas on that basis', added Mr. Al Tunaiji.
DTCM will be issuing brochures along with CDs explaining all details and information about operating SMART. In addition to this, DTCM employees as well as general public can download SMART desktops and screen savers, which will be available in different designs. DTCM will also be distributing SMART posters in the Head Office as well to the other department's sites, encouraging employees to login, submit their suggestions and win reward.
